Sandbox – First-Person Realtime Terrain Sculpting Tool

As part of my research, I am very interested in the tools designers use in their creative workflows, especially from a digital point of view. A particular example I have always been fascinated about is terrain modeling. Conventional 3D modeling software provides the user an interface that fosters scaleless perception of user’s actions over the model, plus usually provides a set of tools whose logics are closer to euclidean manipulation principles, rather than those that form and sculpt landscapes in nature.

This was the inspiration for the creation of Sandbox, an interactive first-person terrain-sculpting tool. You can read more about it on the project page.

Sandbox is a collaboration with Nathan Melenbrink, is written in Unity, and is open source.

Enjoy!
